Cumberland Gap National Historical Park

The Picture of Cumberland Gap National Historical Park

Scenic Cumberland Gap National Historical Park is a 20,000 acre national park where visitors can walk in the footsteps of Daniel Boone, visit hand-hewn log structures on a mountaintop, tour an underground cavern, and enjoy the dramatic view of three states from a lofty pinnacle. The park's visitor center is open everyday except Christmas and is located on Route 25E just south of Middlesboro, Kentucky. Here you may witness the courage of early Kentucky pioneers in the dramatic high-definition film “Daniel Boone and the Westward Movement.”

The park’s 165 site campground is open year-round. Back country camping at five locations along the forested Ridge Trail is also available. There is no charge but a permit must be obtained at the Visitor Center.

The park provides 70 miles of hiking trails, 40 miles of trails open to horse riding, and 12 miles of bicycling trails.
